How to use ir
Ir means to go and is always followed by a before a destination. Ir a + infinitive is the everyday way to talk about the future.
- Voy al trabajo en bus.I go to work by bus.
- Vamos a comer.We're going to eat.
- Fui a Madrid el año pasado.I went to Madrid last year.
- Iba a llamarte.I was going to call you.
Common mistake: Ir and ser share the same preterite: «fui» can mean "I went" or "I was". Context tells you which.
